Job: Animal Bylaw Officer – #REV-ACC04-12-17

To provide Animal Care and Control and to enforce City of Revelstoke Animal Bylaw requirements.  Criminal background check is a requirement for this position, as well as, valid clean BC Driver’s License.


  • Investigate and respond to complaints regarding animal care and control, including Bylaw infractions, recording and reporting details of all complaints,
  • Animal Bylaw enforcement & issuance of warnings and tickets as applicable
  • Foot and mobile patrols of designated areas within the city
  • Pick-up and impound animals as required
  • Company provided vehicle for daily patrols
  • Caring, cleaning and feeding of impounded animals, general maintenance and upkeep of facilities
  • Inventory animal supplies, as well as, lift and store

Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Computer proficiency 
  • Experience in working with the public
  • Ex-military and law enforcement background an asset
  • Bylaw experience supplement with Bylaw Course an asset
  • Ability to work under in fast pace, decision making environment
  • Ability to see the problem and resolve issues
  • Workplace confidentiality is a must
  • Dealing with people/situations in a diplomatic and tactful manner 
  • Effective communication skills – listening and speaking
  • Accurate report writing
  • Must be flexible and adaptable in time schedule and duties
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Team player


  • Lift and carry approximately 20 kg (as in bags of dog food)
  • Ability to lift animals, primarily dogs into vehicle
  • Ability to lift, bend and stoop (as cleaning of dog kennels)
  • Ability to climb stairs, stand and walk for long periods of time
